Here’s an extra creepy 1966 puppet film by Jan Svankmajer. The intro is a little baffling, but once the guinea pig comes out it gets good for sure. Perhaps this says something about violence as entertainment? Perhaps I shouldn’t try to assign purpose and just let you appropriate this for yourself:

As that last video’s text mentions, there is a more traditional ending in which Mr. Punch battles with the devil and kills him. It’s the kind of thing that us adults might assume would be too disturbing for children, but it’s also a really interesting bit of folk art. Here is a performance of that kind of ending:
